Having dental insurance in Spain is essential for several reasons. It is almost impossible to get dental treatment through the public health system because coverage is basic and waiting lists are long.
With only 44 million euros allocated in the budget for 2022, only one euro per year per citizen.
In 2021 the World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted ¨that dental health in Spain is deficient¨ due to the limited coverage in adult care, understandable as there are only 3000 dentists in the public health system.
These deficiencies vary from one community to another. Depending on where you live you will have one or the other type of care.
The answer is to go to a private dentist and it is really expensive. 21% of Spanish people do not visit the dentist for economic reasons.
That is why it is advisable to get dental insurance and even more so as dental plans are affordable from as much as 120 € per year. Please look at the dental insurance market and you will see for yourself that this is the case.
