Health insurance for Spanish residency is one of the requirements for all foreigners, whether they are EU citizens or non-EU nationals who wish to reside in Spain for a period of more than 90 days.
Whether for non-lucrative visa, temporary residence permits (internships or students) or long-term residence permits, it is mandatory for them to have a health insurance with an insurance company authorized in Spain.
It must be without co-payments (sin copagos), which means that there are no limitations. The insured will not have to pay any additional cost each time he/she wants to use the medical service.
The immigration authorities also require repatriation insurance, which means that in the event of a loss of life of the insured person, the insurance company is responsible for all the paperwork and the costs of transporting the body to his or her country of origin.
